Somerset Hills State School has a Chaplain available 2 days a week. The role of a Chaplain is to support the social, emotional and spiritual life of the school community.

A school chaplain is a safe person for children to connect with at school, providing a listening ear and caring presence. They care for students struggling with a wide range of issues, including: family problems, confusing relationships, friendship issues, peer pressure, self-esteem issues, bullying and depression.

Chappy Sandra can be found around the school on Wednesday and Friday and is available to meet with parents, students and staff to hear your concerns and provide a caring ear and offer support and help in any way possible.

Our Chaplain also helps out in the classrooms, can work one-to-one with students (with parental permission), runs other programs on a needs basis throughout the year, assists with excursions and co-ordinates with community groups, churches and other organisations to develop and  maintain a support network for the school and all our families.

Some events are a social get together and we also have regular information/education mornings. Over the term we will cover topics parents and care givers have indicated they are interested in such as Building Family Relationships, Positive Parenting, Assertiveness and Budgeting. We would love to see you come along anytime you can make it.

Every school chaplaincy encourages partnership with local churches and communities. You can help by:  • Volunteering to assist with student groups, and other activities or events.  • Joining the Chaplaincy Committee to plan and fundraise.

To get in contact with Chappy Sandra please email sandral@chappy.org.au
