In early 2014, our school started a morning reading program to help support younger students learning to read and promote a positive reading culture in the school.
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8:30am to 8:50am, students meet in the Library and read aloud to older students or to adult volunteers. Students earn stickers and house points for every morning they read, and are rewarded after each 20 days of reading.
It has been a hugely successful program. Teachers have also seen a positive effect in the classroom, with an overall improvement in student’s reading skills.
Parents and carers are welcome to help with this program.
