Our school

Somerset Hills State School opened in 1966 to cater for the large population created by the establishment of the Queensland Housing Commission estate at Stafford. On the first day, 164 pupils were enrolled. The school does not have an enrolment management plan. Presently enrolments stand at 130. A preschool was established on the site in 1997. Our prep class is now based in a classroom previously used for our older students.

Students formally diagnosed with special needs are supported by programs developed by the Special Education Unit which is run from a suite of classrooms collectively known as the HUB – "Helping, Understanding, Belonging". Somerset Hills State School has a policy of inclusion. HUB staff and specialist staff work with classroom teachers and teacher aides to identify and support individual needs.

We value each student in our school. Our aim is to implement the principles of effective learning and teaching in a positive, stimulating and secure school environment.

We believe that parents and teachers are partners in the learning process and that closely working with our whole school community is a valuable means of creating and maintaining an effective and vital school.
